Oribe global educator and celebrity stylist Gardner Edmunds was on-hand at Samuel Cole Salon to share his cutting expertise in a class featuring the Unstructured Bob. This hairstyle is perfect for women with finer textures and those who want a classic textured, tousled look with minimal structure. It’s a style seen worn by Julianne Hough, Kate Hudson, and Lucy Hale.

The unstructured bob provides a great frame for eyes and cheekbones, and adds softness to the person’s overall style. During the class, Gardner emphasized creating texture and movement with a razor. Stylist were inspired by his visual,  free-style approach, giving a very sexy, undone look to the bob – a traditionally a very geometric cut.  This technique creates a fresh, modern take on a very classic look.

This is one of my favorite haircuts and I loved Gardner’s refreshing take on it. Using a razor gives clients the wispy ends they love without making their hair look thin. It’s the best!

Air Dry Styling + Textured Bob with R+Co Educator Sera Sloane

Sera Sloane called up R+Co co-founder Howard McLaren when she moved from New York to Los Angeles. R+Co was just about to launch, and he invited her to be a part of it. She worked with Howard and the other co-founders Garren (the “godfather” of hairstyling) and Thom Priano (renowned men’s grooming expert) to develop the brand’s original imagery and vibe.

Sera Sloane demonstrated a textured bob on her model and shared her passion for finding the right products to create the look she wants. On smooth, stick-straight hair, getting the texture she wanted starts with the shampoo. Cactus Texturizing Shampoo provides grit and grip for more manageable and easy to style hair. If you’re looking to air dry this summer, Sera loves using Mannequin Styling Paste on damp hair. Tuck hair behind the ears as it dries to create a natural beachy wave in the front. Add some curls with a curling iron throughout for a more polished look.

The textured bob is the perfect cut for summer! It’s versatility is amazing – it can be air-dried for a night at the beach or styled for a summer wedding. I especially loved Sera Sloane’s touch on this cut – she is all about weight removal and that really helps lighten the hair without losing length.

Since Samuel Cole Salon opened its doors in 1997, Daniel Kaner has been a personal mentor and friend to owners Jack and Joelle Ray and a prominent leader in the hair and beauty industry. Currently the President of Oribe Haircare, Daniel Kaner has had a hand in the development of multiple iconic beauty brands.

Daniel shared his thoughts on the value of experiences over products or services and the importance of education. Using the poet Robert Browning’s words, “Ah, but a person’s reach should exceed their grasp,” he shared his affinity for education, which he personally explores through podcasts and Ted Talks. He left the team with a fact to ponder: You have to know what you want before you can become it.

What an honor it was to have such a humble servant-minded industry leader in the salon! Daniel is a tremendous asset to the industry and an inspiration to us all.

Wella Brand Educator and Creative Master Stylist Alejandro Jimenez brought his impeccable attention to detail and passion for customizing each and every client’s haircut and color to Samuel Cole Salon. Alejandro’s class featured hair coloring with an emphasis on the finishing texture. Dusty, vintage textures are gaining momentum on social media – shades appear soft and gentle due to powdery filters. Stylists observed Jiminez’ color placement that re-created insta-filter inspired hues with textures such as vintage wood, leather red and satin blonde.

My mind was blown by the impact of his color placement in the model’s red hair. It really made her color pop, and in the same amount of time as her regular appointment would have been.

Celebrity Stylist and Wella Master Artist Mark Debolt debuted Wella’s innovative ME+ Technology in their hair color. Allergies are on the rise, everywhere, and hair color is not immune to that. Mark Debolt featured the new color technology in his formulations to create a rich red-brunette, a lived-in blonde, and a gray-coverage blonde.
