Wella Color Genius Coco Kootsillas Reveals Color Trends in Master Class

Carla “Coco” Kootsillas, 2016 Wella Trendvision Runner Up, introduced the color mega-brand’s Spring – Summer 2017 Trend Inspiration: Ultra Contouring by Optical Illusions. The trend expands the scope of the selfie culture, toward ultra personalization.  This Spring we will see people embracing brave and bold individuality, pushing to intensify their personal character, and going daringly and deliberately beyond a standardized beauty.

Cara’s rich, deep brunette was created with layers of color blocking, a modern interpretation of the 90’s fad

After introducing Wella’s trend forecast, Kootsillas facilitated a hands-on session in which Samuel Cole stylists consulted with and created custom formulations and application techniques for their models.  Kootsillas personalized her feedback and coaching based on each group’s model and stylists’ levels of experience.  Samuel Cole’s culture is deeply rooted in education, and features monthly advanced learning opportunities for its team.

Coco encouraged us to tap into our inner artist and critically formulate complex hues.  No question went unanswered or cast aside; the interactive nature of the class created an authentic relationship between us.” – Jenny Smith, Stylist and Education Team Member

Master Stylist Nikki Kepley Announces New Boutique Hours

Nikki Press ReleaseNikki + Nollie2Q: Tell us about your new life… How’s motherhood?
A: Oh goodness! Motherhood is crazy. All the emotions! It’s been the biggest, most consuming and confusing, rewarding and exhausting blessing I’ve ever experienced. Helping another human grow up is a fascinating experience.

Q: So you’re back to work, how’s that transition been?
A: It is actually wonderful!  You know, leaving your sweet little baby at home sounds heart breaking but I am passionate about my career as a hairstylist.  I love returning to the creativity and the inspiration that I experience on a daily basis.

Nikki PicQ: Now that you’re back into the swing of things, what trends are catching your eye?
A: Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of natural enhancements, which I am totally digging. I love the concept of taking what God gave you and making it amazing – Keeping color rooty but sun kissed in all the right places. I’ve been drawn to utilizing my razor to create natural movement and texture,  I love creating lived-in wearable signature looks for my clients.

Q: We’ve noticed you have new boutique hours. When can people come see you?
A: I do! I am so fortunate to have a new schedule that lets me share my two passions, hairdressing and baby Nollie. I am in the salon Monday through Wednesday and look  forward to seeing long time clients along with new folks in the future!

Samuel Cole Salon Welcomes 2015 National Wella Trend Vision Gold Winner , “KatieM”

IMG_2559KatieM began her styling career in Asheville, NC in 2006 where she worked in the city’s top salon, Ananda. Training under the city’s finest stylists and colorists, she quickly developed her creative eye and passion for hair. In 2011 she moved to St. Paul, MN where she worked in one of Allure Magazine’s “Top 100 salons” of 2012. She had the honor of working with a very talented and creative team, including Shear Genius‘ Faatemah Ampey. KatieM moved back to Asheville from 2012-2015, and is now relocating to Raleigh, NC where she will be splitting her time between Samuel Cole Salon, traveling as an educator for Oribe, and working on editorial projects. KatieM’s most recent travels have been to NYC and Miami, working with industry legend and celebrity stylist Ronnie Stamm (toured with Rolling Stones and Aerosmith) and training with leading Oribe educator and runway stylist Kien Hoang. KatieM was one of the first to attend Miami Studios. With that, she attended The Art of the Ponytail instructed by Kien. She describes the class as advance with a more critical look at a ponytail. The ponytail was just the starting point and from there they took it to a while different level. She also attended Love Eternal Set which was also instructed by Kien. This class taught the advance way of setting hair to create beautiful S waves. This class took patience and creativity and can create feminine, sexy and expressive styling. It’s very glamorous and timeless approach to styling women’s hair.

KatieM regularly travels to NYC where she extends her education with styling, coloring, and developing her artistic eye. She is trained in Wella Color,  and has excelled in hair painting/balayage. Manselle has studied intensive razor cutting and styling with Bumble and Bumble in New York City.

Katie and Model WinningWe are thrilled to have someone with KatieM’s passion, talent and warm-hearted creative energy join our team. I’ve had the pleasure of mentoring KatieM in the last year before she officially joined our team and it is exciting to find such dedication to being the best. KatieM is committed, focused, creative and always pushing to grow as a stylist. I know our guests and team will love her”, Joelle Ray.

Christian Ceja-Compin, acclaimed stylist and educator, visited Samuel Cole Salon to share Oribe’s signature “Sculpted Tease”.

Christian has 15 years of hairdressing  experience under his belt and spent seven of those years as a national educator for Bumble and Bumble. For the past several seasons, Christian has been assisting alongside the Oribe Education Team backstage at high-profile New York and Paris Fashion Week shows like David Hart, Calla, Rebecca Taylor, Jeremy Laing, SIR, Skaist Taylor, and Rad Hourani, as well as working extensively with J and Ford Models.
During the styling class, stylist learned how to expertly lace hair to create sky-high volume and a gorgeous foundation for any glamorous look. Samuel Cole Salon stylists built structure and bounce using a simplified roller set to maximize volume, creating a rich, current, and balanced shape.

Having Christian to the salon was such a fun experience. His talents as a stylist and educator reflect a strong passion for hairdressing and raising future stylist. I can’t wait to have him back to Samuel Cole Salon!”, said stylist and education coordinator, Cara Harrison.
