Designers Fallyn, Kait and Carmella Visit the House of Bumble

Carmella’s Model

Samuel Cole Salon sent Designers Fallyn, Kait and Carmella to Bumble and bumble University in NYC, an iconic nationwide school of hair design, for a cutting workshop where they furthered their foundational razor cutting skills. Bumble & bumble’s school provides creative freedom and one-on-one instruction from top industry educators. The class expands stylists’ knowledge of Cutting Theory, Advanced Consultation Skills, and Bumble and bumble products in addition to refining their razor cutting skills. 

Instructors demonstrated techniques and facilitated a hands-on workshop in which Fallyn, Kait and Carmella created a long layered haircut and the timeless bob haircut on their models. This class is instrumental in further mastering the art of razor cutting.

R+Co Cutting Guru and Global Educator Douglas McCoy Visits Samuel Cole Salon

Douglas McCoy is an expert hairstylist, specializing in cutting. He is very accomplished, both behind the chair and behind the camera lens. He has worked six seasons of New York Fashion Week, with Houses such as BCBG, Lacoste and Rebecca Minkoff. He is a two-time winner of the Hairbrained Video Awards Lo-Fi Video of the Year and Best Over-All Video of the Year.

When Howard McLaren founded R+Co with Garren and Thom Priano, other industry legends, he asked Douglas McCoy to be on R+Co’s education team before they had developed a single product. The vision they shared was enough for Douglas to know he wanted to be a part of it. As he put it, “R+Co is real life, it’s a hairdresser’s dream.”

I loved hearing Douglas McCoy’s first-hand experience working with Howard McLaren because that’s where he learned how to make every appointment a better experience for his clients. We’re always trying to improve the salon experience for our guests so it was a perfect class to lead into our busy holiday season.

Luxury Extensions

Of all the extensions we offer, beaded wefts are the most luxurious. They are gentle and kind to your natural hair. Silicone-lined beads hug the weft to your hair while it grows. When the beads are removed, your hair remains intact, unbroken and undamaged!

Beaded wefts come in all shades, so we can match your natural color, or select a balayaged shade to add some lightness without altering the pigment of your natural hair. For blondes, these extensions are especially impactful because blonde hair can be so difficult to to keep healthy at longer lengths! Our 100% European Remy Hair extensions are offered in lengths ranging from 20 – 24 inches. After your extensions are installed, you will receive a customized blending haircut for a seamless result!

Application Appointments

Your first appointment to have your extensions placed is 2 – 2.5 hours long, including your customized haircut and style.  

Every 4 weeks, the wefts will need to be moved up. Your certified stylist loosens the beads, slides them closer to your scalp and tightens the beads again. So simple! These quick move-up appointments take only 15-30 minutes! 

Your hair care routine will determine how long your hair can go with regular move-ups. Typically, after the 2nd move up appointment, the wefts will need to be completely removed and replaced with new beads. Your wefts can last an entire year with proper maintenance routines!

At Home Maintenance

Shampoo as usual, and only use conditioner on your mid-lengths and ends. We recommend using Shampoo and Conditioner from Olaplex or the Oribe Gold Lust line – these are gentle on the hair and help it detangle easily. 

Always use a heat protectant and comb through your hair to detangle it before blow drying. We love Olaplex No.6 or Oribe Balm D’or, which will protect your hair and also help keep it detangled! Blow dry your hair thoroughly, especially at the roots. You want to avoid letting your roots air-dry to prevent matting!

Sleep with your hair in a loose low ponytail or braid to help keep it from tangling.  Wearing your hair in a braid overnight makes for some bombshell waves the next day – just touch up a little with a curling iron to polish the front and you will be good to go!

We’re looking for one blogger in the Triangle to showcase our extensions (hand-tied, beaded row, or tape-in depending on your lifestyle and hair dreams) for 60 to 90 days.⁠

Insta-Educator Nikki Kepley @Craft_and_Mane Visits Samuel Cole

Nikki Kepley started her career in hair here at Samuel Cole Salon, before moving home to Greensboro, NC where she accepts clients at Local Honey Salon, and where she shifted her Instagram focus to share her curly hair journey with others.

Growing up, Nikki always straightened her curly hair, but after having two children she wanted a daily hair routine that was a little more manageable. She researched and practiced (a lot) and learned how to style her curls and ultimately fell in love with them! Her passion has becoming sharing everything she’s learned from how to style on “wash day” to be able to “recycle” her curls for several days before having to shampoo and style all over again! Nikki shared with us her wealth of knowledge, and having her perspective as someone who’s styling her own curly hair daily is invaluable.

Her key advice for any curly women on getting their hair cut: if you wear your hair curly some days and straight other days, get your hair cut while it’s straight. You’ll need some layers, but it will look good both straight and curly. A “curly cut” – styling your hair curly before getting it cut – is best for those who wear their hair curly 95% of the time.

I loved this class so much because it expanded my visual cutting skills and allowed me to tap into my background in sculpture. This technique relies so heavily on shaping hair based on the naturally styled curl pattern and texture.
