Master stylist KatieM traveled to Los Angeles to attend a workshop within Oribe Education. She had the honor of learning from editorial stylist Ramona Eschbach. Ramona has had her work grace the cover of many magazines including Ukraine and Russian Vogue.
The workshop led by Ramona featured incorporating braids and sculpting the hair to create different looks with texture. The class gave the Oribe Educators inspiration through collaboration.
I loved working under Ramona! She is the real deal and working with her is such an honor” said KatieM.
KatieM took this amazing opportunity and brought back her inspiration and shared what she learned with her Samuel Cole team in a hands-on workshop. Stylists worked in teams on live models with the final look comprising different textures which merged together for a stunning fused look.
The class was a great learning experience! Working together with a stylist who might do somethings different than the way you do was a great change of pace. It opens your eyes on different ways to achieve similar results and working as a team gave it great satisfaction at our end result.” said stylist Dempsey.
KatieM began her styling career in Asheville, NC in 2006 where she worked in the city’s top salon, Ananda. Training under the city’s finest stylists and colorists, she quickly developed her creative eye and passion for hair. In 2011 she moved to St. Paul, MN where she worked in one of Allure Magazine’s “Top 100 salons” of 2012. She had the honor of working with a very talented and creative team, including Shear Genius‘ Faatemah Ampey. KatieM moved back to Asheville from 2012-2015, and is now relocating to Raleigh, NC where she will be splitting her time between Samuel Cole Salon, traveling as an educator for Oribe, and working on editorial projects. KatieM’s most recent travels have been to NYC and Miami, working with industry legend and celebrity stylist Ronnie Stamm (toured with Rolling Stones and Aerosmith) and training with leading Oribe educator and runway stylist Kien Hoang. KatieM was one of the first to attend Miami Studios. With that, she attended The Art of the Ponytail instructed by Kien. She describes the class as advance with a more critical look at a ponytail. The ponytail was just the starting point and from there they took it to a while different level. She also attended Love Eternal Set which was also instructed by Kien. This class taught the advance way of setting hair to create beautiful S waves. This class took patience and creativity and can create feminine, sexy and expressive styling. It’s very glamorous and timeless approach to styling women’s hair.
KatieM regularly travels to NYC where she extends her education with styling, coloring, and developing her artistic eye. She is trained in Wella Color, and has excelled in hair painting/balayage. Manselle has studied intensive razor cutting and styling with Bumble and Bumble in New York City.
We are thrilled to have someone with KatieM’s passion, talent and warm-hearted creative energy join our team. I’ve had the pleasure of mentoring KatieM in the last year before she officially joined our team and it is exciting to find such dedication to being the best. KatieM is committed, focused, creative and always pushing to grow as a stylist. I know our guests and team will love her”, Joelle Ray.
Owner of Samuel Cole Salon, Jack Ray was invited to Wella Creative Retreat which took place in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event was held in conjunction with Wella Trend Vision Awards which brought a whole new excitement to the experience. Jack had the pleasure of watching our very own KatieM take the gold. The events took place at the beautiful Aria Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Creative Retreat brings top salon owners together that are passionate and creates an unique creative opportunity. They work as a collaborative team creating trends and looks that lead up to a photoshoot and a runway show. Hosting the Wella event was top company representatives; Diego Raviglione (Wella Education Artist Manager), Sal Mauceri (Head of North America Wella, a division of Procter & Gamble), Fabio Sementilli (Vice President of Education for WELLA), Stephen Moody (Wella Global Education Academy Dean), Nick Berardi (Master Educator, Platform Artist, Photographer and CEO of NickEducation.com )
Another highlight of this event is the opportunity for the participants to preview Wella’s newest technology and to test innovative products and give their feedback months before it is introduced to the industry. It also gives the salon owners the chance to network with other industry and market leaders from around the country. Jack had the honor of working with numerous successful stylists, colorists, and business leaders during the event, including: Oscar Blandi (stylist and owner of The Oscar Blandi Salon), Anthony Morrison ( stylist and owner of The Londoner), Serge Safar (stylist and owner of Safar), Steve Lococo (stylist and co-owner of B2V Salon), Stephen Posta (stylist and owner of Dyer & Posta Salon), Rachel Carter (stylist at Dyer & Posta Salon), and Jessica Soler (owner and stylist at Salon Red).
The News and Observer asked Samuel Cole Salon to send some of our talented stylists to help makeover Elizabeth Langston prior to her book signing that took place at Quail Ridge Books & Music located in Raleigh. Elizabeth considers her style relaxed with an old fashion feel to it. She wanted a more youthful look to help connect with young adult readers but didn’t want to go overboard. Stylist KatieM crafted an updated hairstyle. Elizabeth wanted to keep her natural color so KatieM used Oribe Bright Blonde Shampoo, which refined her salt and pepper hair and added a clear gloss for shine. As for the cut, KatieM shortened the bangs while adding texture to the whole haircut to add some movement to the style. She wanted to keep the length to add drama, however it could also be tucked to give it a sleeker look. Elizabeth’s makeup was done by stylist Jenny and she wanted to keep it natural to accent her natural attributes. Jenny finished her look with false lashes to make her eyes pop and used a plum lip gloss to add a little sex appeal.
It feels great to be able to make someone over that wants the change. You could tell she really enjoyed the outcome!” Said stylist KatieM.
