Air Dry Styling + Textured Bob with R+Co Educator Sera Sloane

Sera Sloane called up R+Co co-founder Howard McLaren when she moved from New York to Los Angeles. R+Co was just about to launch, and he invited her to be a part of it. She worked with Howard and the other co-founders Garren (the “godfather” of hairstyling) and Thom Priano (renowned men’s grooming expert) to develop the brand’s original imagery and vibe.

Sera Sloane demonstrated a textured bob on her model and shared her passion for finding the right products to create the look she wants. On smooth, stick-straight hair, getting the texture she wanted starts with the shampoo. Cactus Texturizing Shampoo provides grit and grip for more manageable and easy to style hair. If you’re looking to air dry this summer, Sera loves using Mannequin Styling Paste on damp hair. Tuck hair behind the ears as it dries to create a natural beachy wave in the front. Add some curls with a curling iron throughout for a more polished look.

The textured bob is the perfect cut for summer! It’s versatility is amazing – it can be air-dried for a night at the beach or styled for a summer wedding. I especially loved Sera Sloane’s touch on this cut – she is all about weight removal and that really helps lighten the hair without losing length.

Oribe Haircare Co-Founder and President Daniel Kaner Visits Samuel Cole Salon

Oribe Co-Founder and President Daniel Kaner with Samuel Cole Salon Owners Jack and Joelle Ray

Since Samuel Cole Salon opened its doors in 1997, Daniel Kaner has been a personal mentor and friend to owners Jack and Joelle Ray and a prominent leader in the hair and beauty industry. Currently the President of Oribe Haircare, Daniel Kaner has had a hand in the development of multiple iconic beauty brands.

Daniel shared his thoughts on the value of experiences over products or services and the importance of education. Using the poet Robert Browning’s words, “Ah, but a person’s reach should exceed their grasp,” he shared his affinity for education, which he personally explores through podcasts and Ted Talks. He left the team with a fact to ponder: You have to know what you want before you can become it.

What an honor it was to have such a humble servant-minded industry leader in the salon! Daniel is a tremendous asset to the industry and an inspiration to us all.

Highly Anticipated Formal Styling Class Features Hair Accessories

Every spring our advanced stylists look forward to our Elite Designer Alley Biehl’s Formal Styling class. Her experience and expertise combined with her eye for hair design is invaluable. As the lead stylist of our bridal team, White Dress Collective, Alley is always at the forefront of styling the latest formal trends.

Her class featured accessories in formal hair styling to elevate a look from formal to bridal. A beautiful way to accessorize your hair, just like you accessorize with jewelry, is to adorn your hair with decorative broaches, clips, barrettes, and lately floral wreaths and crowns have been very popular.

I love placing a headpiece beneath a bride’s veil so that when the veil is removed, it’s like a surprise! Plus it’s a fun “re-style” for the bride to wear during her reception.

Mark Debolt Introduces Wella’s Revolutionary New Color Featuring ME+

Celebrity Stylist and Wella Master Artist Mark Debolt debuted Wella’s innovative ME+ Technology in their hair color. Allergies are on the rise, everywhere, and hair color is not immune to that. Wella’s state of the art technology reduces the risk of developing a new allergy to hair color by up to 60 times.

Mark Debolt featured the new color technology in his formulations to create a rich red-brunette, a lived-in blonde, and a gray-coverage blonde. Right now hair color trends are all about enhancing natural color with strategic techniques like foil placement and all-over formulations that won’t show a harsh line of demarcation as it grows. As always, Mark’s presence in the salon sparked a surge in our stylists’ creativity and passion for our craft.

Mark Debolt blended his model’s gray and blonde hair so seamlessly! His technique kept her hair from becoming too blonde, keeping her look very natural and beautiful!”

International Wella Top Artist Aubrey Loots Showcases Fall 2018 Color Trends

Aubrey Loots on the runway pre-show in South Africa.

The only thing Aubrey Loots is more passionate about than the fashion of hair styling is educating and inspiring hairstylists around the world.  As an educator Aubrey draws on his 23 years of experience styling and working on runway shows, fashion shows, and Red Carpet Events in New York, Paris, London, Korea and more.  Just in the past few months, Aubrey has worked on Behind the Chair’s hair show in Texas, led Wella’s styling team for African Fashion International’s Cape Town Fashion Week in South Africa, and presented at Wella’s TrendVision in Tokyo.  While in Tokyo, he also hosted his own week-long Creative Retreat where he taught and set up a photo shoot for stylists, led tours of top Tokyo salons and explored the culture through food, art and shopping.

At Samuel Cole Salon, Aubrey’s Master Color Workshop emphasized the art of color placement, strategically lightening pieces of hair that frame the face and therefore creating a major impact.  Aubrey’s “express brightening” technique achieved a brand new look in a shorter amount of time and would benefit anyone who desires a little extra drama between their routine maintenance appointments.

I loved everything about Aubrey’s class – his technique and formulations and his energy.  The artistic color placement refreshes your whole look without putting color all over your hair every single time.” – Stylist Denise Ficker
