Editorial Styling Genius Dennis Lanni Leads Creative Workshop

Dennis Lanni grew up helping out in his father’s barbershop – sweeping the floor and breathing in the atmosphere and falling in love with the tools, sights and smells. This is where he first learned the importance of hair and how it made people feel.

Dennis Lanni’s passion is making hair sculptures out of everyday objects – he is inspired by wood and stones, and anything he finds while thrifting. His passion for originality drives his work in full-time styling on editorial photo shoots for celebrities and magazines – his work has been featured on the cover of several magazines including Rolling Stone, Fashion, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vogue. Notable celebrities he has styled include Jared Leto, Miley Cyrus, Amy Winehouse, Courtney Love and Zoey Deschanel. Ad Campaigns Dennis Lanni has styled include mega-brands such as Apple, Coca Cola, Nautica, French Connection, and Chloe.

His most recent work for New York Fashion Week featured Big 60’s Hair adorned with tiny white bows for Sandy Liang, and a variety of ringlets, bobs and mullets for Batsheva, including a fun blonde wig on actress-turned-model Christina Ricci. As much editorial experience as he’s had, Dennis Lanni is a well of innovative creativity that always produces fresh new ideas.

Dennis Lanni is such a smart, skilled stylist and I loved having a front row seat to his whimsical creative process. He literally goes in any direction he feels drawn to, I’m not entirely sure he knows what he’ll end up with before he begins and that’s what he loves about editorial hairstyling. It’s about doing what’s fun and looks cool or different that no one else has tried before.

Wella Color Top Artist Mark Debolt Debuted New Color Formulations in Master Class

Director of Education Katie styles Mark Debolt’s Model

Mark Debolt’s sixth visit to Samuel Cole Salon was just as notable and valuable as the previous five. A Top Artist for Wella Professionals, Mark Debolt specializes in color correction, foil highlighting, balayage and is a genius color formulator. He uses his craftsmanship to execute color imbued with rich tones and natural nuances.

In his Master Color Seminar, he shared his passion and trend forecasting. Hyper-natural color is going to set the tone for hair color trends in 2020. Think about how hair color looks on young children, so pure and soft. Trends are also showing that people are having more fun with their hair color, experimenting with their look and using hair color as a function of fashion.

Mark Debolt is one of the most humble, kind and brilliant educators. His seminars include stylists with a range of experience from 2 years to 30 years, and every single person is engaged and inspired. The biggest takeaway from him is always, the client comes first. As a hair stylist, it’s not about “you,” it’s about making the client look and feel like the best version of themselves!”

R+Co Cutting Guru and Global Educator Douglas McCoy Visits Samuel Cole Salon

Douglas McCoy is an expert hairstylist, specializing in cutting. He is very accomplished, both behind the chair and behind the camera lens. He has worked six seasons of New York Fashion Week, with Houses such as BCBG, Lacoste and Rebecca Minkoff. He is a two-time winner of the Hairbrained Video Awards Lo-Fi Video of the Year and Best Over-All Video of the Year.

When Howard McLaren founded R+Co with Garren and Thom Priano, other industry legends, he asked Douglas McCoy to be on R+Co’s education team before they had developed a single product. The vision they shared was enough for Douglas to know he wanted to be a part of it. As he put it, “R+Co is real life, it’s a hairdresser’s dream.”

I loved hearing Douglas McCoy’s first-hand experience working with Howard McLaren because that’s where he learned how to make every appointment a better experience for his clients. We’re always trying to improve the salon experience for our guests so it was a perfect class to lead into our busy holiday season.

Wella Color Artist Rian LaFleur Leads Advanced Color Correction Workshop

Color corrections are some of the most intense color appointments, and Rian LaFleur covered foundational techniques required to master the art of correcting a color issue. The class centered around the concept that there are four ways that color goes wrong. It’s either too light, too dark, too warm, or too cool. Focusing on these four color issues enables our stylists to always remain confident and in control when a color mishap walks through the door.

As a Wella Artist and Master Color Expert with 21 years of experience, Rian has a wealth of experience and expertise in the area of color corrections as well as fashion hairstyling. He has worked Fashion Weeks in Los Angeles and New York, and was named the Lead Stylist of Runway Houston.

“Rian emphasized the importance of protecting the integrity of our guests’ hair. He compared hair to fabric, saying “we want it to feel like silk, not burlap.” This really resonated with me because I’m always looking for new ways to explain to my guests that it can take more than one appointment to achieve the color they want in order to keep their hair healthy.”
