Wella Master Color Expert Stevie Smith Showcases Creative Styling

Muting the rose and denim hues to blend with natural blonde and brunette gives the model a fun dimensional look while maintaining the integrity of her hair. The colorful panels can be hidden for a professional day-time style or accentuated with a side part and a few curls.

Wella Color Genius Coco Kootsillas Reveals Color Trends in Master Class

Carla “Coco” Kootsillas, 2016 Wella Trendvision Runner Up, introduced the color mega-brand’s Spring – Summer 2017 Trend Inspiration: Ultra Contouring by Optical Illusions. The trend expands the scope of the selfie culture, toward ultra personalization. This Spring we will see people embracing brave and bold individuality, pushing to intensify their personal character, and going daringly and deliberately beyond a standardized beauty.

After introducing Wella’s trend forecast, Kootsillas facilitated a hands-on session in which Samuel Cole stylists consulted with and created custom formulations and application techniques for their models. Kootsillas personalized her feedback and coaching based on each group’s model and stylists’ levels of experience. Samuel Cole’s culture is deeply rooted in education, and features monthly advanced learning opportunities for its team.

Nicole Obert Shares Vidal Sassoon Cutting + Freehand Painting at Samuel Cole

Wella TrendVision winner Nicole Obert is a master of cutting, coloring, and styling, who began her career assisting renowned celebrity stylist Nick Arrojo. Obert’s master class at Samuel Cole Salon, featured signature Sassoon-style haircuts and a hands-on session for balayage coloring (hair painting).

Obert demonstrated three color transformations – a blonde, a brunette, and a strong red – using custom techniques for each model. She formulated a glaze to brighten a dull blonde and finished her look with a structured bob haircut. She took a golden brunette to a bold copper red with a custom formulated glaze, and in her final demonstration, transforming a dark to sun-kissed brunette with surface balayage highlighting, she invited each stylist to perfect the technique on a model. Working one-on-one with each stylist allowed Obert to provide individual feedback.

With over 15 years of experience in color, cutting, and styling, Carla Coco Kootsillas brought her unique brand of creativity and technical skill to the Wella Color class at Samuel Cole Salon. As a Wella TrendVision Semi Finalist in 2016, her knowledge and expertise is always current and on-trend.

Kootsillas emphasized foundational and the need for advanced skills in formulating color based on key aspects of the color consultation. Stylists worked hands-on with models and applied Kootsillas’ methods to formulate color for blonde, brunette, red, and resistant gray hair.

Master Stylist Nikki Kepley Announces New Boutique Hours

Q: Tell us about your new life… How’s motherhood?
A: Oh goodness! Motherhood is crazy. All the emotions! It’s been the biggest, most consuming and confusing, rewarding and exhausting blessing I’ve ever experienced. Helping another human grow up is a fascinating experience.

Q: So you’re back to work, how’s that transition been?
A: It is actually wonderful! You know, leaving your sweet little baby at home sounds heart breaking but I am passionate about my career as a hairstylist. I love returning to the creativity and the inspiration that I experience on a daily basis.

Q: Now that you’re back into the swing of things, what trends are catching your eye?
A: Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of natural enhancements, which I am totally digging. I love the concept of taking what God gave you and making it amazing – Keeping color rooty but sun kissed in all the right places. I’ve been drawn to utilizing my razor to create natural movement and texture, I love creating lived-in wearable signature looks for my clients.

Q: We’ve noticed you have new boutique hours. When can people come see you?
A: I do! I am so fortunate to have a new schedule that lets me share my two passions, hairdressing and baby Nollie. I am in the salon Monday through Wednesday and look forward to seeing long time clients along with new folks in the future!
