Owners visit NYC to attend Bumble and bumble University

jack_BbU_200px_4877cMarch 9, 2009 (Raleigh, NC) – The founders of the award winning Samuel Cole Salon, Jack and Joelle Ray, hit the streets of New York City recently to attend Bumble and Bumble University. “BbU”, as it is called, is a haven for artists that share passion, goals, and a willingness to learn. The course, Styling II, featured extremely challenging timeless classic hair dressing techniques. The curriculum included mastering the intensely detailed double French twist, chignon and the simple yet complicated haute de style “ponytail”. The style workshop was designed to develop the ultimate discipline in the stylist, as they created the classic styles of old Hollywood and pushed the visionary’s mind to create, contort, and mold hair in new, innovated ways while encouraging simplicity and elegance.

“Bb has always been the leader in our industry in runway and photo styling work. To learn these techniques from the very people doing the looks we see in the fashion magazines and on the runways were both a thrill and a honor.” says Jack Ray of his experiences in New York. These workshops are intended to inspire talented stylists to enhance their knowledge of the most current trends, and their ability to relay those trends to their clientele. “It is imperative that we as stylist are able to connect our clients to the latest looks in hair and fashion. There is an abundance of capable, gifted hairdressers out there that can create a fantastic look but the exceptional education we provide for our team as well as our clients sets us apart” says a Samuel Cole Salon Director.

Samuel Cole Salon Stylists prepare Models for Fashion Show and Photo Shoot

anti_valentine_200px_02db9February 13, 2009 – Samuel Cole Salon Stylists created hair and makeup designs for the Anti-Valentine’s Day Fashion Show held at Mosquito in downtown Raleigh. This spoof on Valentine’s Day featured 1980’s “The Breakfast Club” styled characters showcasing fashions by Privilege, Mechantes, The Metallic Spiral, and The Spectacle. Hair & makeup creations reflected “goth”, “preppy”, and “party girl” styles. Proceeds benefited the Autism Society.

Stylists from these salons also designed hair and makeup for local photographer, Josh Paul. He hosted an open shoot for photographers at The Office on Glenwood South. The shoot featured Maxim Models with sultry, sexy hair and makeup.

“Doing hair and makeup designs for fashion shows and photo shoots in the area keeps us fresh and current. It is a chance for our Stylists to work on Editorial hair and makeup. They bring that energy back to our clients at the salon and deliver high fashion cuts & color,” said Joelle Ray, one of the owners of Samuel Cole Salon.

Award Winning Salon’s Stylists enhance their talents at Bumble & bumble University

house-of-bumbleFebruary 9, 2009 (Raleigh, NC) – Continuing Samuel Cole Salon’s mission of consistent professional education and improvement of skills, four top stylists from Samuel Cole Salon recently traveled to the New York City to continue their studies with master hairdressers at Bumble and bumble’s (Bb) downtown “House of Bumble” aka Bumble University. The Samuel Cole Salon design team attended an intensive three day hands on course called Design Workshop. The Samuel Cole stylists honed their skills, found inspiration and discovered different and unique ways to focus their ideas, expanded their repertoire, and learned to look at hairdressing in new contexts. They engaged in three days of advanced training in cutting and styling techniques designed for experienced stylists.

“The experience was amazing. I can’t wait to go back and attend Design Studio in the fall,” said a stylist. According to another stylist who also recently attended Bb U’s Network Educator class, “It is always a truly inspiring opportunity to attend any class at Bumble and be surrounded by fellow stylists and educators who are as passionate about hairdressing as I am.”

Raleigh Salons Get “Social”

readers-choice-logoFebruary 2, 2009 (RALEIGH, NC) – From formal “up-dos” to urban graffitti, Samuel Cole Salon stylists pulled out all the stops to create dramatic hair and make-up designs for 18 models in Social The Magazine’s third annual Reader’s Choice Awards Show, held in Disco Rodeo in North Raleigh recently.

The Samuel Cole Salon team also walked away with the magazine’s Reader’s Choice Award for “Best Overall Stylists” in the area.

Calling the show “THE see-and-be-seen event of the year,” Social combines a runway presentation with its annual awards presentations. For this year’s show, the magazine showcased fashions from three Raleigh boutiques – NV Clothes for Men in North Hills, Runway on Glenwood Avenue and Privilege by Casanova, also on Glenwood – and enlisted the expertise of the two North Raleigh salons as well as fashion director Betzi Hekman of Love Assassins Productions.

Samuel Cole Salon worked with Betzi Hekman on the STRUT ’08 fashion, music and dance extravaganza held last spring in North Hills.

According to a director at Samuel Cole Salon, the stylists created individual looks to complement specific outfits for the six men who modeled for NV. For Runway, the look was semi-formal to formal with emphasis on sexy and dramatic up-dos. For Privilege, “We went for glitz and glam, ‘80s funky and ‘60s flare — very cutting-edge hair with graffiti-like make-up, cat’s eyes, for example.”

The stylists created the hair and make-up designs in Samuel Cole Salon, an award-winning upscale establishment in North Raleigh owned by Joelle and Jack Ray, before the models strolled down the runway to “Just Dance” by Lady Gaga.
