Oribe Educator and Editorial Expert, Kien Hoang Shares his Expertise

Oribe educator and editorial expert, Kien Hoang shared his expertise with Samuel Cole Salon in March. Hoang lead a class dedicated to “The Art of the Ponytail”. He taught stylists how to turn this common style into a high fashion editorial and runway look. Hoang brings over 20 years of experience as a stylist and is known as much for his artistry and technical skill as he is for his passion, warmth and generosity. His creative approach to hairstyling inspires stylists to go above and beyond their day-to-day salon work. His most current work was seen on the runways during NYFW ’14 and can also be seen at kienhoang.net.

“Kien is an incredible educator and a fixture in the world of fashion.  We were lucky to have him share his expertise with our salon on how to transition a quick, perfect ponytail into endless possibilities.  We had 22 stylists in attendance and no two looks were the same.  Our team was able to add striking looks to their portfolios,” said Sara Beard, Assistant Director of Education & Master Designer.

November 11, 2013 (RALEIGH, NC) – Oribe Educator, Coby Alcantar was on-hand at Samuel Cole Salon to share her cutting expertise in a class focusing on The Pixie Cut.  This timeless cut made famous by celebrities such as, Mia Farrow, Audrey Hepburn and Twiggy is popular once again and is currently worn by Michelle Williams and Emma Watson.  Coby is a former Bumble and bumble educator and owns her own salon in Brooklyn called Little Ax.

Stylists were inspired by Coby’s new take on this classic cut.

Coby emphasized combining free form and technical skills by taking circular sections for an uncanny way to customize this cut for each client.  This technique delivers a very personalized pixie style and allows stylists to be true to each client’s unique headshape which is extremely important for short hair cuts.

“Oribe’s education team has such a unique way of teaching.  Their approach is so out-of-the-box and really pushes our stylists to really think about hair differently.  A pixie cut is very classic, so to learn an updated concept that pays homage to the past, while making it so current and relevant is invaluable to our stylists,” said Sara Beard, Assistant Director of Education.

August 19, 2013 (Raleigh, NC) – Editorial stylist and Oribe educator, Adam Livermore, shared his expertise with Samuel Cole Salon.  Adam’s styling class featured inspirations from Giorgio Armani’s Prive shows, as well as the Council of Fashion Designers of America runway show.

June 8-10, 2013 (RALEIGH, NC) – Samuel Cole Salon owners, Jack and Joelle Ray along with salon top stylists, Sara Beard, Carolyn Nord, Cara Harrison and Alley Biehl attended Oribe’s Backstage 2013 held in Miami.  The multi-day event featured “La Fama”, an electric presentation celebrating all that is Latin.

As part of the Backstage Hands On Workshop, Beard, Nord, Harrison, Biehl and Jack Ray delved into the artistic side of things and transformed their models into “El Chupacabra”.  Oribe encouraged participants to create their own interpretation of this mystical monster and name it.  “It was all about hairdressers expressing themselves,” said Oribe.  “I was blown away by the magic of the runway show.”

Upon their return from Miami the stylists hosted a class recreating the “La Fama” event at Samuel Cole Salon. Each Samuel Cole Salon stylist had the opportunity to interpret the inspiration and transform their models into “El Chupacabra”.

“Working with Oribe is always amazing.  He is so creative, open and generous.  We love having him as a mentor,” said Joelle Ray, owner of Samuel Cole Salon.
