Jack Ray Styles Hair For Isa Arfen Collection At Fashion Week

Samuel Cole Salon owner Jack Ray was invited by Wella to work with The Wella Creative Retreat Team to style hair for the Isa Arfen Collection at New York Fashion Week. The designer Serafina Sama, created the line in 2011. This years’ inspiration is described as: women’s wear for a tropical vacation with relaxed glamour feel.

The show took place at The Standard, The High Line located in the
Meat Packing District. Jack worked along with Claudio Lazo, who is a Wella Top Artist and Celebrity Stylist. Serafina describes the show being about travel, adventure, escapism, freedom, and sense of ease- a bit of a tropical rave.

Katie Hu and Libby Bink Attend Bb.U Network Educator Training in NYC

Katie and Libby were hand selected by Samuel Cole Salon owners to attend this special workshop created specifically for stylists who are committed to becoming educators and leaders within their salon. Network Educator Training is an intensive four-day program that equips participants with the tools to teach and inspire other stylists. Building confidence is key, and students work on finding their voices and connecting with their audience while presenting custom curricula with skill and personality. The course included four learning categories; public speaking and teaching other stylists, learning the breakdown of products in order to teach clients and stylists and perfecting the flat brush and round brush blowout techniques. The workshop offered the opportunity to learn and practice live presentation and other essential communication and teaching techniques. Completion of the training allowsHu and Bink to access Bumble and bumble‘s exclusive tools and resources made only available to NEs in the Bumble and bumble Salon Network.

Samuel Cole Stylists Head to Experience Bb.U in NYC

Stylists Morgan, Lauren, Dustin and Denise attended Bumble and bumble University in New York City to take Bb.U’s intensive cutting class, Design Workshop. This course demonstrates the cutting skills fundamental to success in future Bb.U Design School courses and in the salon every day. It consists of two days of theory and training in consultation skills along with product knowledge. This class builds a strong foundation for future growth. This class took stylists out of their comfort zone by taking away the safety nets. Bb.U educators specialize in assessing a stylist’s strengths and weaknesses then offer them instruction on how improve their skill set. All education at Bb.U consists of extensive demonstrations by Master Stylists and comprehensive hands-on featuring live models.

Wella Colorist Drew Calloway Brings The Latest Tortoiseshell Color Craze

Wella educator and stylist Drew Calloway was at Samuel Cole Salon to share the newest coloring trend, tortoiseshell (ecaille). “To be clear, this isn’t so much a dye technique as it is a color,” Howard says. “Think of tortoiseshell and all the colors that come in it: golden blondes, chestnuts, mahogany, chocolate, honey, and all those lovely, warm tones.” It sounds delicious, sure, but the key here is that it’s multidimensional, which means many tones are being painted — not foiled, Howard notes — into the hair.

Drew was born and raised here in the Tar Heel State where he started his hair career fresh out of high school, practicing and perfecting his craft behind the chair while teaching advanced education as a National Educator for Paul Mitchell. Drew moved to fashion forward and fast paced NYC to really hone in on his skills, with a strong focus on hair color, while taking on a role as an Educator for Wella.

Drew currently works as a stylist at Laicale in the heart of SoHo, surrounded by “downtown inspiration” and is constantly striving for perfecting the next trend in hair color! He has worked in various settings from fashion photo shoots, coordinating hair for wedding parties, and backstage coloring hair for large scale hair shows, but being behind the chair and bringing smiles to clients faces while sharing the gift of knowledge is what he is most passionate about.

Michael Knight attends V76 by Vaughn Men’s Grooming Workshop

Elite stylist Michael Knight just returned from the V76 Men’s Grooming Workshop in New York City. The workshop, led by V76 creator, Vaughn Acord, and V76 educators, Barry Hughes and Jason Hunt, focused on the complete salon visit for men, from cutting and styling to general grooming. The educators demonstrated several different looks, combining old-school barbering with up-to-date salon techniques.

Educators also focused on the history of men’s styling and the importance of catering to the male client in a unisex salon. The V76 team emphasized tailoring each cut and style to the individual, understanding which tools to use, what methods to employ, and how to give a proper consultation on the total look.

After a morning of presentations, Michael participated in a hands-on workshop with a male model to give him the cut, shape and style that best fit his face shape, hair texture, lifestyle and personality.

Working with Vaughn Acord was an amazing experience. Vaughn in as expert in the field of men’s grooming with clients including Bruce Springsteen, Bill Clinton, Bryan Ferry and many more. During the class we did an in-depth study of the history of trends and hairstyles that have influenced men’s grooming over the years. Vaughn’s enthusiasm was contagious and inspiring. We were able to work one on one with Vaughn picking out models and deciding what was the most appropriate look for them. V76 provided a top notch NYC photographer to shoot the final look from our models for submission to industry trade magazines. The day was filled with many surprises and incredible challenges and I am so looking forward to working with Vaughn Acord again in the near future.”, said Michael Knight.
