Stylists Katie + Libby Attend Bumble & bumble Leadership Series in NYC

Members of Samuel Cole Salon’s Education Team, stylists Katie and Libby are instrumental in teaching several cutting, coloring and styling classes to Associates who go through our Immersion Program. Committed to build leadership, technical and teaching skills, they attended Bumble and bumble University’s Network Educator Series at Bb.U in New York City.

The three-day course included sessions on product ingredients, leadership, presentation skills and hands-on styling. Educators demonstrated techniques that Bumble and bumble’s Global Artistic Director Laurent Philippon used to style runway models for Lacoste at New York Fashion Week. Katie and Libby loved these techniques, as they applied them in a hands-on session with live models.

Oribe’s Classic Bob: The Haircut of Fall 2017

Adam Livermore, a stylist at Muze Salon in New York City and Oribe Educator, demonstrated the haircut everyone in “The City” is asking for: the Classic Bob. Brilliant for a variety of hair types – fine to thick density and straight to wavy texture – the Classic Bob can be air dried for an undone casual Saturday stroll in the park or polished to perfection for a formal cocktail hour.

Wella Master Color Expert Stevie Smith Showcases Creative Styling

“Mermaid Hair” has taken the internet by storm, with the brightest combinations of pinks, blues, and purples paired with electric greens and yellows. Stevie Smith gave this hair color phenomenon new life with her Wella Master Color expertise in our Master Class. Muting the rose and denim hues to blend with natural blonde and brunette gives the model a fun dimensional look while maintaining the integrity of her hair. The colorful panels can be hidden for a professional day-time style or accentuated with a side part and a few curls.

As highly regarded colorist and stylist, Stevie Smith’s work has been featured in magazines such as Allure, Chicago Social and Chicago Bride, and she has styled television and movie actors, theater dancers and fashion models.

Dustin Fann Returns to Samuel Cole Salon

We sat down with Dustin for an interview to see what he learned on his year long creative sabbatical as a New York City stylist…

Q: What was the best part about living in New York City?
A: There is always a buzz of excitement in New York City! There is such a diverse group of people, who bring different art, culture and food from all around the world. I met a lot of people who were from places I have never been, and it is really beautiful to see the world through their eyes. And of course I loved trying all the amazing food – I never knew how much I loved Italian food until I went to this great place in my neighborhood.

Q: What new inspirations did you find?
A: My clients in New York inspired me by their variety of perspectives and styles. While most of them were on the forefront of today’s trends, some were very androgynous and edgy and others maintained a classic look with an updated flare. I also found inspiration in the two Oribe classes I took with Top Educator Ronnie Stam – I loved his class at Samuel Cole Salon, so I was very thankful to be able to see him twice at the Oribe Studios in New York.

Q: What are you looking forward to when you return to Samuel Cole?
A: After working with stylists in New York who have so many different backgrounds, I am excited to bring new perspectives and techniques that I learned from them. I have mastered new color techniques, such as the development of the balayage trend, color melting. As popular as it is, you can really do anything with it – keep it classic with natural tones or intensify it with any variation of shades.

R+Co Lead Educator Robert Vazquez Demonstrates “The Chop”

Supermodel Karlie Kloss made this cut famous when R+Co Co-Founder Garren cut her long bombshell locks to a short length just below the chin. Vogue named it “The Chop” and it sparked the long-bob trend, revived recently when Garren, again, cut and styled Kendall Jenner’s hair for Vogue’s coveted September Issue.

Robert Vazquez has worked with Garren for 13 years, gaining invaluable experience that has shaped his career as a hair stylist and educator. Vazquez wanted to create a “wash-and-go” style for his model, a new mom with an infant at home. He styled her cut with R+Co’s Sail Soft Wave Spray, spraying it all over her damp hair, then finishing with a rough blow dry – without a brush. He emphasizes that the right haircut, and using the right products, can drastically simplify your daily styling routine.
