Oribe educator Coby Alcantar presenting Unstructured Bob model

Oribe educator and owner of Little Axe Salon, Coby Alcantar was on-hand at Samuel Cole Salon to share her cutting expertise in a class focusing on the Unstructured Bob. This hairstyle is perfect for women with finer textures and those who don’t want too structured of a cut. It’s been worn by stars as diverse as Scarlett Johansson, Keira Knightly,  and Jennifer Lawrence.

The unstructured bob provides a great frame for eyes and cheekbones, and adds softness without too much length. During the class, Coby emphasized creating texture and movement with a razor. Stylist were inspired by Coby’s visual,  free style approach, giving a very sexy, undone look to what is traditionally a very geometric cut.  This technique creates a fresh, modern take on a very classic look.

Having Coby come to the salon for a cutting class is such a treat. Her energy and passion is contagious. We get to dive deep and nerd out on hair for a few hours with one the industries finest. It is such an invaluable educational experience”, said senior stylist, Nikki Galloni-Kepley.

Samuel Cole Salon takes over Nashville for Oribe’s exclusive “On the Road” event. Stylists, salon managers and owners from around the country made their way to Tennessee to learn editorial and salon-friendly techniques from the Oribe Education Creative Team. The class focused on current trends of the industry including: cutting, styling, sculpting, braiding and extensions.

Seasoned stylists Louis Orozco, Coby Alcantar, Kien Hoang, Ronnie Stam, and Wella’s color expert, Mark Debolt were on hand for a morning of demos and an afternoon of hands-on training . Stylist were given the knowledge, tools, and techniques to create different looks and learn how to adapt these trends into everyday styles behind the chair.

Samuel Cole Salons senior stylists, Nikki Galloni- Kepley and Cara Harrison, were honored to be asked by Oribe’s team to assist them back stage and on stage during the demo’s.

Being backstage at the Oribe “On The Road” event was an exciting new privedge for me. It was cool getting to network with educators I had already met in the salon. I felt challenged but at-home with the hairdressing that was being created backstage and I am grateful to have been a part of such an exciting, exclusive event”, said Nikki.

Nashville was an amazing experience all around but working with Kien backstage was absolutely inspiring. Not to mention all the other amazing stylists that were there as well. I just love absorbing as much as possible and truly falling love with the medium we use to create art”. said Cara.

Samuel Cole Salon stylists Erin Grogan, Kelsey Easley, and Veronique Breault recently visited Bumble & Bumble University in New York City to participate in their Design Studio Workshop. The stylists were inspired and challenged after studying with master hairdressers at the House of Bumble.

The intensive 2 day workshop focused on customizing cuts to the clients lifestyle, habits, and wants, using an unguarded razor.

The stylists honed their skills, discovered different ways to focus their ideas, and mastered the  latest cutting techniques and trends.

The design studio workshop was such a great experience!  I learned so many different techniques, like how to create volume and movement, with only a razor. I’ve always been comfortable with one, but after spending a few days with the educators at Bumble and Bumble, I can confidently cut and style hair using an unguarded razor. Everyone at Bumble and Bumble is so talented and I always come back with so much valuable knowledge”, said stylist Erin Grogan.

The Samuel Cole Team were able to apply what they learned in the classroom by working hands-on with models each day.

“Bumble and bumble Educators always give me an excellent opportunity to continue to develop my eye as a colorist and stylist. The time spent in this class was so valuable and I’m excited to bring this education back to our salon and our stylists”, said Jack Ray -Owner Samuel Cole Salon

Samuel Cole Salon and the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina have joined forces to “Stock the Pantry” this summer. The summer months are particularly challenging when children in need are out of school and have even less access to nutritional meals. Almost half of those who use the Food Bank’s services are children and those over the age of 65.needed contributions for infants are diapers, wipes, formula and infant cereal. For kids the most needed are sugar- free pudding cups, granola bars, popcorn crackers and juice boxes. And for seniors, nutritional shakes and drinks as well as adult hygiene products. More general but still on the most needed list are canned fruit, vegetables, meat, beans and soup as well as whole grain pasta and rice and peanut butter. Lastly are hygiene items, household items and paper products. The food bank requests no glass please. We will be collecting items from now until August 30, 2014. Just drop off your contribution at your next appointment or whenever it is convenient . There is collection box in our reception area. We are super excited to help such an amazing organization! Thank you so much in advance for your help.

“Thank you to all of our amazing salon guests and stylists who have generously contributed and have made a positive difference in our community”, said Jack Ray. – owner Samuel Cole Salon
