Wella Colorist Drew Calloway Brings The Latest Tortoiseshell Color Craze

Samuel Cole Salon Owner, Jack Ray and Wella Colorist, Drew Calloway

Wella educator and stylist Drew Calloway was at Samuel Cole Salon to share the newest coloring trend, tortoiseshell (ecaille). “To be clear, this isn’t so much a dye technique as it is a color,” Howard says. “Think of tortoiseshell and all the colors that come in it: golden blondes, chestnuts, mahogany, chocolate, honey, and all those lovely, warm tones.” It sounds delicious, sure, but the key here is that it’s multidimensional, which means many tones are being painted — not foiled, Howard notes — into the hair.

Drew was born and raised here in the Tar Heel State where he started his hair career fresh out of high school, practicing and perfecting his craft behind the chair while teaching advanced education as a National Educator for Paul Mitchell. Drew moved to fashion forward and fast paced NYC to really hone in on his skills, with a strong focus on hair color, while taking on a role as an Educator for Wella.

Drew classDrew currently works as a stylist at Laicale in the heart of SoHo, surrounded by “downtown inspiration” and is constantly striving for perfecting the next trend in hair color! He has worked in various settings from fashion photo shoots, coordinating hair for wedding parties, and backstage coloring hair for large scale hair shows, but being behind the chair and bringing smiles to clients faces while sharing the gift of knowledge is what he is most passionate about.

Drew taught me to look at color tones in a different way. Combining warm and cool tones to give clients the ultimate dimension. Encouraging us as colorist to expand our creativity results in more options for our clients.” Stylist, Ashley Eaves

Spring Trend Vision 2015 with Wella Design Team Educator Anna Vaul

Owner of Studio 520 Salon and Spa and Stylist Anna Vaul was on site to demonstrate Wella’s newest line of color Freelights Instamat!c by Color Touch. Anna has been in the beauty industry for over fifteen years. Her career spans stage, television, and print. Anna’s extensive education and talents led to her position on The Wella Design Team. instamatic2 Color Touch Instamat!c technology is formulated with a fine blend of color molecules that is diffused gradually into the hair cuticles. The result is a demi-permanent, delicate matte gloss, muted shine, on-trend finish. The five hour advanced color workshop focused on the art of hair painting and matte, pastel tones. After Anna’s live model demonstration, Samuel Cole Salon stylist had the opportunity to create futuristic looks by using the Instamt!ic tones and glosses to create filtered effects and were able to demonstrate this new color technique on their own models.

Samuel Cole Salon vs. Cancer

vscancer2015Samuel Cole Salon has teamed up with the Vs. Cancer Foundation to help children battling cancer right in our own community! In joining forces with Duke Children’s Hospital and NC Children’s Hospital, we asked how we could help these kids in their treatment, the overwhelming response…

Any toys that can played with in bed, infant mobiles (hangs over a crib), doctor play kits, craft kits/isolation activities, clothes, matchbox cars, children’s DVDs, and of course cash.

Starting now and until March 31st, we are hosting a drive for these toys to be given directly to children battling cancer as we speak. On your next visit to Samuel Cole, we invite you to bring in any of the items listed above to help make chemotherapy, radiation, and other treatments a little easier to bear. It may seem simple, but sometimes the simplest gift can lift spirits. And that may be the gift that helps a child through their next treatment.

For more information or to donate directly, please visit samuelcole.vs-cancer.org and help the next child BEAT CANCER!
