R+Co Lead Educator Robert Vazquez Demonstrates “The Chop”

Supermodel Karlie Kloss made this cut famous when R+Co Co-Founder Garren cut her long bombshell locks to a short length just below the chin. Vogue named it “The Chop” and it sparked the long-bob trend, revived recently when Garren, again, cut and styled Kendall Jenner’s hair for Vogue’s coveted September Issue.

Robert Vazquez has worked with Garren for 13 years, gaining invaluable experience that has shaped his career as a hair stylist and educator. Vazquez wanted to create a “wash-and-go” style for his model, a new mom with an infant at home. He styled her cut with R+Co’s Sail Soft Wave Spray, spraying it all over her damp hair, then finishing with a rough blow dry – without a brush. Stylists were treated by the much-anticipated annual Formal Styling class with our Master Stylist Alley Biehl. Her experience with event styling reaches back into her middle school years, styling hair for her family and friends for school proms and formals. Alley’s class energizes stylists for the upcoming formal season by demonstrating skills behind red-carpet looks seen at awards shows such as the Oscars and Grammys. Alley demonstrated a reinvention of the “whimsical bride,” instead of a textured look she created a smooth modern bun, accented with a beautiful beaded head piece.

Alley’s class featured two newly released Oribe styling products, Swept Up Volume Powder Spray and Free Styler Working Hair Spray. Swept Up is a volumizing powder that provides lift with an easy pump-spray application, and Free Styler was its perfect pair, providing equal parts flexibility and hold.
